the impossibility of indexicality

The internet is the list gone awry, but perfectly so. Slowly inching through a technological history borrowing from print forms to explore the difficulty inherent in communication, the next step required moving closer to the digital realm—the contemporary manifestation of our desire to list and archive everything. While of my work responds to the materiality of the printed page I looked for ways to evoke the special properties of the digital realm while remaining connected to the haptic, phenomenological relationship of sculpture, and interaction with various reading devices. This installation begins with a printed roll of computer browser tabs, so overloaded as to be unreadable. It extends into a network of etchings of a grid overlaid with a cloud of static and spherical forms invoking maps.
